But why would you do that?

That’s the phrase I heard most often when I first started taking quick weekend trips.

It started innocently enough. I had just returned from my first big trip as an independent adult (two weeks in London and Paris with my boyfriend, Michael) when I stumbled on a cheap flight to Austin, Texas, over a holiday weekend. Not wanting to miss the budget fare, I booked it.

And my family freaked.

“Can you afford that? Is that really a smart use of your money?”

Well… yes.

With a modest income and limited vacation time allotment, I thought it would be a great way to explore a city I’d always wanted to visit. The flight times aligned perfectly for the weekend, and I wouldn’t have to take off work at all.

Fly in, fly out, and get back to work.

But the trip veered so wonderfully off track that it lit a fire in me that I didn’t know existed, and this trip became the first of a series of long weekends (okay, and regular weekends, too!) far away from home.

This leads me here: after nearly four years of quick jaunts and a few longer ones, I’m embarking on another adventure, albeit a digital one. Welcome to my blog!

It looks like we’re all new here, so thank you for checking in and joining me on this endeavor.

So, what should you expect to see in this space? Generally speaking, I’ll share stories and photos from my travels, tips and tricks for getting there, restaurant recommendations, real-life packing lists, and other helpful travel information.

I recognize that there are so many travel resources out there, but I’ve found that very few fit my style of travel – so it is my goal to create the travel resource I would want to utilize. Let’s get this out of the way: I’m not an expert (is anyone?), and thanks to my full-time job, I’ve visited fewer destinations than some of my other favorite travel bloggers. But I’ve learned so much helpful information firsthand over the past few years, and I can’t wait to inspire more people to book that cheap weekend flight.

In the coming weeks, expect to see a couple of carry-on packing lists, as well as some reviews of recent destinations, like Indianapolis, Montreal, and Tampa.

So stay tuned – and feel free to chime in with any questions or suggestions! I can’t wait to see you out in the world.

All my best,
Alyssa
