2017 Fall Travel Style Wish List

--California, October 2015--

We’re still facing 90°+ days here in Florida, and to be honest, I’m starting to feel a little tired of summer. My Instagram feed is beginning to fill with colorful leaves and sweaters, and I’m beginning to get anxious for my favorite fashion season, Fall.

In past seasons, I’ve picked up cheap, trendy items at the mall or in the sales section of websites. After realizing these items were not making me happy or helping me feel more comfortable in my skin, I’ve whittled and weeded out things that don’t fit my body or my lifestyle. In doing so, I found that I still have some noticeable gaps in my wardrobe to fill. These days I’m shopping with a more intentional approach, carefully considering items before making a purchase, questioning how a garment is made, and also determining how an item will fit in with my current possessions and its ability to stand the test of time. Below are some items I’m considering picking up this fall, both for my everyday life and for traveling.

Georgia Tee

Full disclaimer: I just hit “purchase” on this silk tee from Elizabeth Suzann, but with the current lead time of 6-8 weeks it will be fall by the time I receive it. Short sleeves and silk aren’t usually autumn-friendly, but here in Florida, I should be able to wear this for a few more months.

A stack of packing cubes from Away
Packing Cubes

I actually currently have several packing cubes, but what I have is a random assortment of cubes from Ikea and Eagle Creek. I love the streamlined look of this set from Away, and they might be worth the splurge (head here to take $20 off an order of $125+ if it’s your first purchase at Away). Update: I purchased them and reviewed them here!

Aesop travel set
Travel Set

A travel wishlist would be incomplete without a set of travel-sized goodies from Aesop*. This set would look really good in my quart bag.

Lightweight Scarf

I visited ABLE while in Nashville, and I really love the clean and modern look of their items. This scarf looks perfect for when the weather starts to turn a little crisp and cool and looks like it would be nice to bunch into a pillow on a long flight.

Weekender Bag

Ah, the leather weekender bag. As soon as I saw this bag on Cuyana’s early access page, I knew I would want it. It’s a splurge for sure, but looks like it will hold up beautifully for years to come [2023 edit: I purchased and reviewed this bag instead]

Sweatshirt

For the past few autumns I’ve been drawn to burgundies, and I love the idea of a classic sweatshirt to curl up in on a long flight or to pack as pajamas. This one from Everlane ticks both boxes, and the price is right as well.

A black leather Laptop Sleeve
Laptop Sleeve

My laptop is an 11″ MacBook Air, and it has been quite challenging to find a beautifully crafted sleeve to hold it in (most are made for 13″ and 15″ laptops). Whenever I have trouble finding items at mainstream makers, I turn to Etsy. This looks both slim and sturdy.

It’s about time to buy new powder, and I don’t yet have a favorite. I think my next attempt will be Wowder from Glossier.

Silk Dress

Similar to the Elizabeth Suzann top, this silk dress* looks like it would work well dressed up or down (i.e. perfect for traveling). Belted, with a sweater, layered, with tights… it looks like a closet workhorse.

Black ankle boots with a zipper
Waterproof Boots

I’ve mentioned before that I have a pair of waterproof Chelsea boots, but I’m really in need of a pair of slightly dressier waterproof shoes. These boots from Blondo* could fit the bill, as they have enough heel to be dressy, but the heel is stacked (i.e. they’re walking-friendly!).
