As part of the application process for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Global Entry Program, Michael and I recently had to attend an in-person interview at one of their Enrollment Centers. None of the airports near us had weekend hours, and the thought of sacrificing a hard-earned vacation day to visit during the week didn’t sit well with me, so we took it as an opportunity to visit Miami for a weekend.
On our way out of the city, we visited the Wynwood district, just north of downtown Miami. Within the past few years, this part of the city has grown into a major arts district. Howerver, Wynwood Walls is probably the most well-known outdoor gallery in the area, with a striking collection of murals that are free and open to the public (note: tickets are now required, and adult admission is currently $12).
I’m a big fan of the transformative power of public art, so today I thought I’d bring you on a little stroll through Wynwood—even if you can’t make it to Miami:
The art doesn’t stop once you step outside of Wynwood Walls; you’ll find plenty of other murals and street art throughout the neighborhood (and maybe a chicken!).
And maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll get an incredible loaf of sourdough from Zak the Baker as a souvenir from your visit to Wynwood.
