Happy Weekend!

It’s early here (5 a.m.) and Michael and I are driving to the Orlando airport to catch our flight to Louisiana. The Orlando airport isn’t my favorite Florida airport but it’s often the cheapest with the most destinations (Miami and Fort Lauderdale also offer low fares and many destinations but they’re a bit too far away). Today’s flight is on Frontier (yes, eww), and we’re also playing check-in chicken on our drive. The airline assigns seats from the back of the plane based on check-in time, and there are still over one hundred seats available. The best seats go to those who wait, but I’m sweating a little!

We’re really looking forward to our day in Lafayette despite the ever-changing rainy forecast. There’s lots of good food and music on today’s agenda, and I’m excited to explore a destination I never would have picked if it weren’t for the cheap flight.

Anyway, here’s what you’re here for: this week’s link roundup.

Travel

Last weekend there was a “Tram Driver Championship” in Brussels, which included challenges like… Tram Bowling.

Practicing all of these Cajun words for our trip this weekend!

Even though it’s a short flight from Florida, I’ve never traveled to Puerto Rico – but it’s on my radar! Quite honestly, it might be one of the most perfect destinations for people who live in the U.S. It doesn’t require a passport to visit, and because you’re landing on U.S. soil, you won’t have to pay those hefty international flight taxes! Edit: I have since corrected this misstep!

Andrea shared her L.A. packing list earlier this week and it has me longing for just the right weather (we’ve had so many 90°+ days so far this month). Allll the heart eyes for her leather backpack (and with a zipper and clasp, it’s ready to thwart pickpockets!).

Last year on wayward: I shared my packing list for our trip to Pittsburgh.

Life & Home

I baked this cake earlier this week due to having a surplus of sliced almonds on hand for work potluck and it was delicious.

We recently rented Bird scooters in Mexico City – and now the brand is giving you a chance to purchase one of your very own. Would you buy one?

Here’s an… interesting? ranking of cookbooks.

In case you missed my Mother’s Day Gift Guide post, here’s your reminder that Mother’s Day in the U.S. (and other countries like China, Sweden, the Philippines, and South Africa, to name a few) is tomorrow. Don’t show up empty-handed! At least bring Mom a printout showing a gift you’ve ordered, or a digital/print-at-home gift like: an Airbnb gift card (or better yet, book her a staycation in one – you can use my link for $40 off your first $75+ booking), concert or theatre tickets, a Priority Pass for the frequent-flyer, or cover the cost of Mom’s passport photo and application (perhaps make it a date!) if she’s never had one before.

Lava cookies.

Going kind of (okay, full-on) gaga for these custom-refinished mid-century modern dressers.

The sexism (and privilege) behind the Zero Waste Movement.

Style

Collage: coin purses shaped like mango, lemon, watermelon
Clockwise, top left: mango, lemon, watermelon, all Cuyana

How cute are these fruit-inspired coin pouches from Cuyana? In fact, everything in their latest collection makes me feel a little better about the high, high temperatures we’ve already reached at home. Current faves are this open-back dress and the market bag.

See how your favorite sustainable brands really stack up (yep, even Cuyana – it doesn’t look so good).

I normally don’t get really into wedding recaps, but holy smokes was this one amazing!

I rarely get excited about shoe drops, but the City Sandal from Margaux may be just the summer wedding guest shoe I need (and the new Y Heel from M. Gemi would be perfect for the rest of the year). And the sustainable-fashion babes at Reformation just released their first shoe collection, and they are gorgeous.

Sale alert!

  1. Girlfriend Collective is offering $20 off compressive legging and bra sets with code HEYMA, now through Sunday. Their high-rise leggings are the only leggings I’ll fly in.
  2. The makers of my fave dry shampoo are offering free shipping this weekend only. |
  3. The Laundress is offering free shipping this weekend only, and if you shop via my referral link you’ll also receive $10 off your first order. Sweet!
  4. ADAY just launched its Carry-On Capsule collection, and you can save $61 if you purchase all five items in the capsule. My favorite? The Over in One Dress, which would look great with sandals or layered over a lightweight turtleneck in the fall.
  5. Anthropologie is offering an additional 25% off all sale items (though I’m not sure for how long). Fun picks include these little nutrient bombs, a facial mist, and reusable straws (so shiny!).
  6. Cash back-giant Ebates is celebrating 20 years of savings by offering 15% cash back at stores like Madewell, Kiehls, and Brandless.

Things I bought this week

A silk mini skirt

Just the one! I ordered a simple silk skirt from Madewell from someone on @thegeneraleconomy (similar option available here). It’s technically a mini-skirt, but I’m hoping that since I’m only 5’4″ that it might be acceptable for work. We’ll see.

Initially, I believed that I should have a closet full of 100% work-appropriate items but I found that I didn’t really feel good while wearing my work clothes on the weekend. Now I’ve noticed that I enjoy owning some weekend-only pieces as it helps me mentally unwind from the work-week. It may not be as practical, but it certainly feels a lot better.

What is your ratio of workwear to weekend-wear garments?
