A Review of the Rosso Straight Ponte Pant from wool&

Hopping on today to share a quick review of the Rosso Straight Ponte Pant from wool&.

I’m starting to feel like my home is being taken over by wool.

Not just because I’ve taken up knitting (though Michael will probably tell you that there is so. much. yarn. everywhere).

But because it’s one of my favorite fabrics to wear.

Despite the public perception that it’s a difficult fabric to care for, chances are pretty slim that you’ll wind up with a sad, shrunken sweater – because the truth is, wool doesn’t need much care in the first place.

Wool is naturally odor-resistant, meaning it can go several wears without washing. When the time finally comes to launder, most lightweight wool knits can be tossed in a mesh bag and washed on the delicates cycle before air drying flat on a rack (I prefer to hand-wash heavyweight knits to help them keep their shape – which is also way less labor-intensive than you might imagine).

You’ve already seen some of my favorite easy-wearing wool pieces here on the blog: a chic shirtdress, a wildly versatile (and stink-proof – yes, that’s important!) reversible dress, a ready-to-fly mock jumpsuit, and all-around great basics.

Today I’m hopping on to share a review of wool&’s Rosso Straight Ponte Pant, a tailored pant that’s deceptively stretchy (i.e., exactly the type of pant I reach for on a long flight):

ABOUT THE ROSSO STRAIGHT PONTE PANTS

The Rosso Straight Ponte Pant is an elastic waist pant in a straight silhouette made from a stretchy heavyweight ponte fabric. Despite the more casual waistband, this style is decidedly polished thanks to a piped center seam.

Currently, this pant is available in two colorways: a classic Black (shown here) and a gorgeous deep green called Forest Night. Both colors are made of the same wool blend comprised of 75% Ultrasoft Merino Wool (340 GSM, 17.5-micron wool), 22% Nylon, and 3% Spandex.

This style is available in sizes XS to XXL (numeric sizes 0-20), and I generally find wool& size charts to be pretty accurate. Additionally, the brand recommends choosing your size for the Rosso based on your hip measurement – but I have some thoughts on that down below.

At first, you might not think that styling a pair of black pants is particularly interesting – until you realize they make an excellent blank canvas.

It’s incredibly easy to style the Rosso Straight Ponte Pant for all seasons and occasions, from a warm Spring day spent at the farmer’s market to a chic winter date night look to the office (okay, not exciting, but essential!). MY REVIEW OF THE ROSSO STRAIGHT PONTE PANTS

A pair of breathable, tailored black pants is a travel wardrobe workhorse – and this pair has earned its keep in my closet. They’ve held up incredibly well after several washings (in a mesh bag on the delicates cycle and air-dried on a drying rack), and they are pill-free while maintaining the deep, true black color.

But I can’t quite go so far as to say they’re perfect – at least, not in this size.

My measurements place me squarely between a small and medium on the size chart for these pants, and I took wool&’s advice to size up based on my hip measurements. At first, this seemed to be the right call, but after a few hours of wear, the fabric relaxed quite a bit across my low belly and hips and the pockets started gaping open while standing still.

The relaxed look is in right now, but if I were reordering today, I would size down to a small for a cleaner look.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON WOOL& PANTS

Although wool& is best known for their dresses, thanks in large part to their 100-Day Challenge, their pants selection grows a little with every passing season.

As a frequent traveler who relies on hardworking clothing that can be worn multiple times before washing, I’m selfishly grateful. I know that I can reach into my closet and pull out both the Rosso Straight Ponte Pant and the Frame Ponte Culotte (reviewed here) and be right on my way. With a comfortable elastic waistband and soft, breathable, wrinkle-resistant fabric, wool&’s pants have proven themselves to be an asset to my travel wardrobe and I’m excited to see what comes next.
