A Survey – and a Giveaway!

Update: the results are in!

The world looks very different in 2021 than it did when I was last posting regular content here at the beginning of 2020 – as does the concept of blogging. Today I’m releasing a reader survey to better understand what your thoughts are on travel, blogging in general, and what you’d like to see here at wayward. I want to continue providing content that’s relevant to you – both now and when the world is fully open again.

This survey should take approximately five-to-ten minutes to complete, and as a way to say thank you for sharing your valuable time, I’m giving you the chance to win any currently-available item of your choice from Away (with a value of up to $100)! Update: Giveaway is closed – congratulations, Yvonne! To take the survey and enter the giveaway, click the button below:

Giveaway is open to U.S.-based entrants only; for an additional entry please visit the giveaway post on Instagram. Official rules can be found here. Giveaway closes November 1 at 11:59 a.m. EST.

The 2021 wayward Survey Results

The results are in! Some of the information is surprising to me, other parts not so much.

On the topic of travel, readers have ventured out quite a bit this year, mostly focusing on domestic travel. Nine out of thirteen respondents traveled via plane this year, which was a bit surprising, and people overwhelmingly seem comfortable staying overnight at hotel-type lodging. Of course, these respondents are following along with a travel blog, so it makes sense that the numbers might be higher. When asked if people have trips booked for 2022, I received a couple responses stating that international trips are booked, and six responses that no travel is booked yet. To me, this means that people are extremely hopeful that the world will return to a semblance of normalcy sometime next year.

On the topic of blogging, readers tend to visit this website less than a handful of times per month. This is helpful to me as it means I might be better off pacing my posts closer to one post per week than two or more. When it comes to blogs as a category, thankfully no one ticked the box stating that “blogging is an outdated format.” For the future, I think I will add more open-ended questions to the survey, as those responses were the most interesting to me. A few of the remarks on what you’d like to see in the coming months on wayward included sustainability/sustainable travel, style, travel during COVID, travel tips, and touring your hometown. You got it! One reader even mentioned, “Love the cat content” (I promise it wasn’t me!), so I’m going to wrap up this post with a photo of sweet Meow:

Thank you so much for accompanying me on this journey!
