Happy Weekend to you! It’s been a busy week around here, so I’m just going to jump in and share what I’ve been into this week:

Travel

I’d love to do a full road trip across Canada one day, and Lee’s Vancouver travel guide has me wanderlusting even more.

Starting today, the T.S.A. will be implementing additional security screenings on powders larger than 12 o.z. for international flights bound for the US. The rule is already in effect for domestic and outbound flights departing from the US but hasn’t been widely announced. While the T.S.A. doesn’t restrict powders in amounts of that size, it may slow down your security check.

I’m happy to say that this week we booked not one, but two international flights! We’ll be rounding out the summer with a quick weekend getaway to Mexico City, and just in time for the start of fall, we’ll be headed to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. We’re currently watching and reading all about our destinations, and will soon begin the process of booking train travel, attraction tickets, and our Airbnbs.

Food

Once upon a time, I was borderline obsessed with making and decorating cakes and cupcakes. My lifestyle has slowed a lot over the years, and I no longer have the patience for painstaking decorating. Instead, I’d rather make something that’s beautiful in its simplicity and also tastes great. This cake is next on my list to try.

Lately, Michael and I have both been craving vegetable Thai curries and making them for dinner at least once each week. The combination of flavor, spice, and rich, fatty coconut milk is irresistible! Plus, it’s a great way to use up whatever random veggies are sitting in the crisper and to finish off a big batch of rice from earlier in the week. We no longer use a recipe, but here’s a good place to start. What style of curry is your favorite?

Life

Next year will bring my thirtieth birthday, and while I’m likely not anywhere near where my younger self would have wanted me (and grateful for that), I don’t feel like too much is missing. Still, it’s an important milestone. Here’s an alternative to one of those articles detailing all of the things you should do by thirty: 9 Life Skills to Learn by 30.

I love seeing women come forward and truly dominate in a field that primarily features men. These DJs are absolutely killing it, but it again shows how often women are left behind in terms of compensation.

Style

What I bought this week:

What I bought
Clockwise, top left | Women’s Baseball Cap, Everlane | Day Heel, Everlane | ACLU Donation Bandana, Only Child (linked to similar) | T Top, Jamie and the Jones | Cheeky Straight Jeans, Everlane |

So, some of this is what I bought this week, and some of this is what arrived this week. Out of the three items from Everlane, I only kept the hat. I’m not much of a baseball cap kind of gal, but I’d like to protect my face without displaying (pretend) loyalty to a team. As seems to be the norm, everything from Everlane is hit-or-miss. I need to size down in the Day Heels again, and the Cheeky jeans just don’t work for my curves (however I’ve seen them on others and they are stunning). I keep trying with Everlane because every once in a while I find a true gem that fits well and that I enjoy wearing.

I also finally ordered a T Top recently from Jamie + the Jones’ sample shop (shh, it’s supposed to be a secret, I think?). I didn’t notice any defects with the fabric or stitching but did find that the length was several inches longer than it was supposed to be. I’m not sure if it was a larger size that was mismarked or one of the newer added-length tops. It was beautiful, but the extra length overwhelmed my frame, and they graciously agreed to accept a return.

The last thing I ordered this week is the ACLU Donation Bandana from Only Child (no longer available; linked to similar). I own the previous donation bandana – the rust one, benefitting the NAACP – and I think it’s truly amazing how the maker is using her platform to benefit those who are underrepresented.

Have a great one! What are you up to this weekend?
