Oh, hello!

Michael and I are making our way to the Big Easy today, which means getting up really early for a flight and coming back really late tonight.

“Why?” people have asked.

Well, we can’t really take any additional time off right now, the price was right ($57 each roundtrip), and we won’t have to pay for lodging, which makes for a really cheap day away. I mean, it would be easy enough to spend that amount of money on a trip to, say, Target, out to dinner, and then to a movie.

And if that’s your thing, great! You’ve found your thing!

But I’d rather spend that money in New Orleans.

Anyway.

Here’s what I found interesting around the digital world this week:

Travel

Have some free time at the end of the month? Cross your fingers and enter Airbnb’s new contest to sleep over at the Louvre. (Even if you don’t win the contest, you can take $40 off your first Airbnb stay of $75+ with my referral link. Not a bad consolation prize, eh?). [contest closed]

Here’s a good reminder about the money you’re entitled to if your European flight is delayed or canceled (and here’s our experience using it).

Next time you use a desktop computer in France, the keyboard may look a little different.

Life

Oh boy. Here’s a ranking of the 99 craziest things that have happened in Florida in the past ten years.

Talia talks about opting out of social media (site no longer available). These days I only use my personal Facebook for searching for events while we travel and for checking in to see if any classes at our gym have been canceled. At some point soon, though, I think it will be time to let it go!

Eighteen New Yorkers on laundry day (whew, I’m glad I have in-unit laundry).

Style

Sale Alert! You can shop the Saks Friends and Family Sale through tomorrow (my picks can be found here). M. Gemi is hosting its Anniversary Sale, so if you’re on the hunt for shoes now might be a good time to pick a pair! I personally like the Lasso Basso, Pietra, Speranza, and Capri.

And also – Launch Alert! Vetta Capsule just dropped the Classic Collection, which is comprised of five multi-functioning garments that can be mixed and matched to form thirty different outfits. My favorite by far is the Cape Jumpsuit, but I also think the Two Piece Wrap Skort has travel potential because the shorts pockets are hidden underneath the skirt portion (and also, coverage)!  (Vetta has since shuttered). Nisolo just released their ultra-light Travel Derby [save 20% with code WAYWARDBLOG20] shoe for men (lucky!). Tradlands just released their new collection, and I really like this striped tee.

I feel like I’m just getting back into the statement earring trend, but these monstera earrings are making it pretty easy.

Kind of obsessed with Cuyana’s new collection, particularly this linen moto jacket in sand (more than the black one, which surprised even me!).

Things I bought this week

Only two things this week: this Belted Overall Jumpsuit from & Other Stories and Baby Foot. I’ve received both already, and I’m kind of on the fence about the jumpsuit. I briefly tried it on, but I usually like to try things on two or three times before making my final decision. It definitely fits well, but I want to play around with the styling to make sure it will be versatile.

I also started using Baby Foot, which seems very much like an “As Seen on TV” kind of thing that actually works scarily well. I won’t subject you to looking at pictures of my peeling feet, but I will say the online review photos are pretty accurate. I wish I had started it a month ago, though – my feet are a tad too unsightly for sandals at the moment! So far, I highly recommend it to people who spend a lot of time walking (and traveling!), but in the colder months.

How much did you spend on your last outing? Where could that money have taken you if you’d put it toward a plane ticket? Check out Google Flights and let me know!

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

  1. Ok, the whole Baby Foot thing is both appealing and cringe worthy. Does it hurt? How long does it take for the whole *shedding* thing to be done? I’m scared but interested. Also a while back you posted a recipe for crumpets. As I have leftover starter nearly every week, this has been a go to. Thanks!

    1. I’m with you 100% on Baby Foot – it’s one of those grossly-satisfying things! The most discomfort I’ve felt during this whole process is a mild stinging during the last five minutes of wearing the plastic boot application. It took several days for the peeling to begin, and now, after a week, the bottoms of my feet are mostly done and I’m experiencing some peeling on the top. I understand that it takes about two weeks for the whole process, and my only regret is not starting sooner (it’s getting harder to justify wearing boots or tights during these days in the upper 80s!). It may not be worth it if you get regular pedicures, but as I so rarely do, it’s done wonders for removing the painful calluses on the bottoms of my feet from so much walking.

And I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying the crumpets! They are a delicious way to use up the starter discard.
