2018 Holiday Gift Guide: Last Minute Travel Gifts

Alyssa holds an Advent Candle that slowly burns to 24

We’ve all been there – the moment you realize that you’ve accidentally left someone off your list (or when you’ve put off getting a gift for that person who’s impossible to shop for) and a sense of panic sets in.

Not to worry! Today I’m sharing a few gifts that you can still get today – and get this – all from the comfort of your sofa (or wherever your computer/tablet/phone is).

This post contains affiliate links and I may receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking one of these links (at no additional cost to you!). Thank you for your support - it enables me to run this site ad-free!

Some items have their own printable or email-friendly notification of the gift; for the others, I recommend printing out a confirmation or photo of the gift and placing it in a card. As always, I’ll only ever share items that I own/use or would own/use, promise.

Why these items?

Cooking Classes | Your will-travel-for-food friend will love the opportunity to take a cooking class with an international flavor. Sur la Table has stores nationwide that offer several cooking classes per month, and they make a great date night or friend outing.

National Parks Pass | Give them the gift of adventure with a National Parks Pass from the National Parks Service. Better yet, free entrance is granted to up to three accompanying adults per pass holder, which makes this single pass a gift for the whole family.

CityPASS | CityPASS is a great way to explore a city you’re visiting – or your hometown! We’ve taken advantage of this program before, and with both well-known and lesser-known sights on the list, we’ve stumbled on to some other pretty great places.

Travel & Leisure Magazine Subscription| I receive an absurd number of magazines in the mail each month (something like 25 or more!), and the first ones I always read are travel magazines. I enjoy perusing Travel & Leisure (as well as Condé Nast Traveler and Afar) to get a new perspective on places, even if the style of travel featured isn’t always what I prefer or can afford. *Note: when giving magazines as a gift, never select “auto-renew.”

Southwest Vacations | The gift-giver with no time on their hands may consider booking an all-inclusive vacation through a service like Southwest Vacations. It bundles hotels and flights together, eliminating the need to search for multiple options at once. I suspect, though, that the bottom line will be much higher than booking individually, but I also know that time is a much more valuable asset for some than others.

Airbnb Experiences | The number of Experiences on Airbnb has grown rapidly, and these outings would be a great way to offer your recipient a day out with an itinerary of activities tailor-made to your town or their upcoming trip (Take my visits to Teotihuacan and Tequila for example!).

Rosetta Stone Subscription | Give your Francophile friend the gift they really want – the chance to learn a new language. Rosetta Stone offers language-learning subscriptions in over 25 languages, making travel to a new country and culture more comfortable.

LA Fitness Gift Card | First of all, you have to know your recipient really well to give them a gift like this. But for the fitness-obsessed traveler, a membership at a gym with locations nationwide can be a total lifesaver. Even if the hotels they stay at have fitness centers, they’re often just small rooms stuffed with sad treadmills and stationary bikes.

Audible Subscription | The road-tripper in your life (or even that friend with a long commute) will appreciate an Audible Subscription. Each month they’ll receive a credit for an audiobook, and that book remains in their library even after their subscription ends. Audiobooks are a great way to finally get around to reading that book when they can’t seem to find time in the day.
