2019 Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Two cards that say "Mom" and a succulent

Quick PSA: Mother’s Day in the U.S. is Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Though I’ll always advocate for taking a trip over giving tangible items, I understand that many families still feel that tug at their heartstrings to wrap gifts to exchange with loved ones (mine included). Plus, there’s something really so lovely about wrapping up a gift for the person who gave you life – even if it’s something tiny.

Today I’m sharing a carefully edited selection of travel-related gifts for mothers and mother figures. Some of these items are a beautiful luxury to receive, and others would be wonderful in conjunction with another gift – perhaps a staycation in a local Airbnb or even a once-in-a-lifetime trip to somewhere further afield.

The items here have been selected for their aesthetics and functionality, as I hold a personal belief that the best gifts have both. And as always, I’ll only ever share items that I own or would own, promise.

GIFTS FOR MOTHER’S DAY 2019

1. The Classic Flat | Ballet flats never go out of style, and these simple shoes will fit in anywhere in the world (but especially in Paris!). The retailer even offers a made-to-measure gift option for the mom who struggles to find shoes that fit.

2. City Travel Kit | Give Mom the gift of fewer things to remember to pack with a travel kit of toiletries. This set comes with several items from the brand’s beloved Parsley line as well as items other kits leave out – toothpaste and mouthwash.

3. Paris Map Necklace (no longer available; linked to similar) | This darling Etsy shop offers multiple city map graphics in gold and silver, but if you don’t find the city you’re looking for, they also create custom necklaces and more with the location of your choice. It can be the perfect reminder of home when she’s away, or the best way to look forward to an upcoming trip.

4. Linen Draped-Front Shell Top | It’s no secret that I love this brand and its motto of fewer, better things. This top is a stunning neutral that beautifully skims the body line. Plus, I find that a linen-blend fabric works best for traveling (fewer wrinkles!).

5. Workshop Sampler Gift Box | When Mom can’t take the time to travel and taste the world’s offerings, why not bring the world to her? A coffee sampler is a great way to start her day without committing to a larger bag of coffee she may not like as much.

6. Form Bag | I was on the fence about this bag when it first debuted, but it’s grown on me since then. Form and function collide in this Goldilocks-sized bag for day trips, and the bone color shown here will match any color in her wardrobe.

7. Pack This Pad | For the mom who tends to forget things (or perhaps she’s just too busy saving the world to remember), this packing checklist could reduce the headache of packing. The quote at the bottom of the pad is perfect, too: “Bring half of what you think you need, and twice as much money.”

8. Scallop Hip Bag (no longer available, linked to similar) | This hip bag may finally convince your mom to give this style another go. In a sweet, adjustable woven recycled cotton, it’ll keep her hands free for more important things.

9. Fragrance Tablets | Fragrance tabs are a smart way to slip a little scent in your bag without worrying about spillage of a leaky perfume bottle. She can simply pop off as many tabs as there are days on her trip, and not have to worry about smelling less-than-fresh.
