I am back!

Things have been fairly quiet over here and on the ‘gram because I was so busy enjoying myself in Europe and relishing simply being away.

But, despite my love of travel I also love the grounded feeling of being home and have been relishing quiet evenings and a sense of routine. Michael and I found ourselves back in our offices twelve hours after arriving home, and I’m looking forward to a quietly productive weekend unpacking, spending time with family, beginning to plan blog posts about our trip to Europe, and binging on all of the blog posts from others I’ve missed while we were gone!

I haven’t spent much time online this week, but here are a few things I did find interesting:

Food

It’s been ages since I last posted a recipe (that was for Kladdkaka, back in March), so I am way overdue! After many a disappointing waffle experience in Belgium, I’m ready to share my Liege waffle recipe with you. While I’m generally not a fan of recipes with fancy ingredients, one thing you must have for these waffles is pearl sugar. If you want to enjoy a waffle better than any in Belgium, go ahead and add this to your cart. I’ll be sharing the recipe in a few weeks! [edit: it’s here!]

Any thoughts on Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski’s restaurant opening in NYC? Will there be avocado toast?

I don’t have kids, but this upgraded mac and cheese recipe may be debuting in my kitchen sometime soon.

Life & Travel

There has been a lot of stressful news in the media lately – rather than sharing more articles, I thought I would share something lighter: here is an otter finder you can use to locate cute animals near you. Because, really, we need more of things like this.

The New York Times recently shared an updated 36 Hours in Nashville. You can read what I did during my own 36-hour trip to Nashville last year here. Have you visited Music City?

Here’s yet another reminder that not all of what you see on travel blogs is so glamorous (particularly ones by people who do it full-time).

How many cities have you been to on this list of the thirty most beautiful cities in Europe? (I’ve been to twelve – and I can’t wait to visit more!).

Style

Ellie shared a beautiful piece about her time spent in the Philippines touring clothing factories and workshops. I look forward to reading more of her insights from her trip over the coming weeks. [site closed]

things I bought this week

Nada. And it feels great. Up until our trip I was in quite the buy-try-return cycle, and long travels like the one we just completed always remind me how little I truly need to be happy. While we were away I did purchase the Everlane Boss Mules, which I had been dreaming about since they first teased them on Instagram a couple of months ago. They are beautifully made (and Elaine really liked them) but I felt that the extreme point made my size 7.5 feet look like boats and I feared I would receive blisters along the top of my foot. Sadly they are currently en route back to Everlane.

How much time do you feel you need to fully recover from a long trip?

Have a great weekend! We’ll see you on Monday for one final Mexico City post!
