Hello from the road!

So much has happened since last weekend’s journal post – but the short story is that Michael tore a muscle in his leg on Sunday night, resulting in us canceling our New England trip (we figured that icy sidewalks and a walking boot probably don’t mix too well).

A total bummer, sure, but we still managed to salvage a weekend away by taking a very last-minute mini-road trip (after of course making sure Michael could make the journey!).

We’re currently in Georgia, heading over to Scottsboro, Alabama, to visit a place that’s been on our list for some time: Unclaimed Baggage.

Have you ever wondered what happens to luggage that’s left at airports, on trains, and buses? After attempting to locate their owners, airlines sell the remaining bags to Unclaimed Baggage, who open the bag, clean the items inside, and sell them in a retail storefront that’s the size of a city block.

I can’t wait to share with you what I find – be sure to follow along on Instagram Stories later today!

As for this week’s link roundup, I spent a fair amount of time working to cancel our previous trip and hastily map out a route for our road trip – which left only a little time for casually exploring the internet. Still, here are some things I found interesting around the web this week (and figured you might too!):

Travel

One kiss? Two kisses? Eight kisses? Here’s a guide to cheek-kissing etiquette around the world.

We loved doing a mini cicchetti crawl in Venice (but just don’t end up in the hospital like me the next day).

Unfortunately, there’s a reason why all Airbnb bookings are made under my account, and not my partner’s. New peer-to-peer lodging booking site Innclusive strives to address and prevent discrimination by withholding photos of individuals until a booking is made.

Curious how much it costs us to travel? Me too! Michael and I are sharing everything we spend this weekend over on Twitter.

Food

I couldn’t get enough of the pancakes when we visited Norway a few years ago, but I don’t know why I never thought to make them at home. I can’t wait to give this recipe a try!

Would you ever consider making your own cold cereal from scratch? (It seems like a lot of work!)

When it comes to rolling pins, I almost always reach for a shorter pin than a longer one so I can more easily manipulate the dough. My old plastic one is beginning to shred, and I’m seriously swooning over this wooden one from East Fork as a replacement.

Style

Allllll the heart-eyes for this multi-wear earring.

The maker of my favorite travel leggings has done it again with this unitard. This seems perfect for wearing under cold weather clothing, or under a sweater on the plane, and they come in a wide range of sizes!

I’m kind of obsessing over this Aussie brand that’s new to me (though I’m probably not the first to stumble on it!). Not only do they have lots of travel items, but they also have wallets with the features I’m looking for: opens flat, large zippered coin pouch, flat currency pocket(s), and a clear ID slot. Several of their wallets fit my requirements, but I’m kind of leaning toward the Dakota and the Esther. Which is your favorite?

Here’s a great roundup of size-inclusive sustainable fashion labels.

Things I bought this week:

Cuyana Alpaca Sweater Dress

Because I’ve been busy and distracted this week, I spent very little time shopping online (yay!) and returned a few things from Uniqlo and Madewell that I’d ordered in previous weeks due to fabric and fit (also yay, because I don’t want to settle for garments that aren’t exactly what I need). I also held off on ordering anything else this week with the prospect of going to Unclaimed Baggage and the potential for buying things there!

This week I did place an impromptu Poshmark order when a bundle of two Cuyana alpaca dresses popped up (they’re no longer available from the retailer, but here is a similar option) – I don’t own any cold-weather dresses, and I love the lightweight warmth of alpaca.

I’m not sure if I’ll keep them both, but I’m pretty confident that I can make back what I paid if I need to sell one or both secondhand. So, while I don’t like buying things I can’t return, I make sure that when I do, I can resell them and recoup what I spent.

Have you ever taken a road trip with your significant other? Where’d you go, and how long did it take you?
