The Best Travel Deals from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (Updated July 2023)

Are you over it?

I know, I know – the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is everywhere right now and it can be overwhelming.

It’s frustrating to hear blog after blog talk about “all of my finds!” and to feel a little left out of the early access days. And at the same time, it’s easy to succumb to all of the pressure to BUY RIGHT NOW once the public sale opens. But we’re smart folk, you and I – we use those preview days to scour the site and see what’s worth our hard-earned dollars. We take the time to carefully plan our purchases, researching what’s actually a great deal and what can be found at other retailers at the same price point throughout the year. We consider our plans for the upcoming months and evaluate what we have and what’s missing before making practical purchases that fit our guidelines. We mull over items that may add value to our lives and not simply reduce the available space in our homes.

This week I put on my travel hat (okay, if we’re being honest I always wear my travel hat, even if it’s underneath my metaphorical work hat and sleep hat) and scouted the site for items that would only enhance the travel experience. Items that make getting dressed a breeze, packing a feat that could be done in one’s sleep, or that have the ability to solve travel dilemmas we didn’t even know existed.

Without further ado – here are my travel picks from this year’s sale:

My Beauty Picks

top row || Lotion Duo | Sunscreen Set | Makeup Set
bottom row || Lotion Refill | Flat Iron | Fragrance Set

The “beauty” category of the sale is only a few pages long, but there are still a few deals to be found! My favorite way to shop this part of the sale is to stock up on my daily products at a discount (hey, money saved today can go toward my next trip!). My favorite lightweight face lotion is included in the sale, as is my holy grail lotion in a ready-to-refill pouch and the sunscreen that actually gets me to use sunscreen. And not a consumable item of course, but my go-to full-size flat iron is here too!

On the flip side, it’s a chance to try something new without the usual financial risk. A travel-friendly eye palette and mini mascara could be a fun pair to try if you’re in the market for something new, as is a set of luxe travel-ready fragrances. Even if you don’t travel with fragrance regularly, the smaller size means the scents won’t go “off” with your infrequent use.

My Bags & Accessories Picks

top row || Clutch | Convertible Crossbody Bag | Travel Jewelry Case
bottom row || Waterproof Weekender Bag | Clasping Crossbody Bag | Watch

The “bags” category in this sale is strong. Now would be a great time to pick up a secure leather crossbody bag, like this chic clasping one. The style is simple and timeless, and it matches just about any outfit. This convertible crossbody bag is on trend with the shoulder strap, but the crossbody strap renders it a bit more travel-friendly. And this clutch made me smile, so in it went. On the luggage side of things, this waterproof weekender bag would ease the worries of a damp camping weekend.

The accessories section is… okay. I stumbled on this fun bubblegum pink watch from a local-to-me brand, and I can’t stop thinking about it. Need something to tote your jewelry? This case is surprisingly economical.

My Clothing Picks

top row || Utility Shorts | Sweater Dress | Silk Top
bottom row || High Rise Jeans | Reversible Coat | Elastic Pants

There are lots of multi-season items to be found in the Anniversary Sale, but the one that stands out to me the most is this sweater dress. Sure, it looks great for Fall as shown on the model, but you can wear it with a cute pair of leather sandals now. Also super versatile are these elastic pants (hello overnight flight!) and this reversible coat (like two jackets in one!). And I can never resist a pair of good jeans.

I admit I surprised myself with a couple of these picks, like this bold silk blouse that feels just right for vacation mode. And this pair of utility shorts is sportier than I usually go for, but they’re ready to thwart any scrutinizing budget airline gate agent.

My Shoe Picks

top row || Heeled Sandals | Penny Loafers | Slip-on Sneakers
bottom row || Ballet Flats | High Top Sneakers | Waterproof Booties

The shoe section is easily my favorite part of this sale. There are lots of good brands for traveling here, as Nordstrom carries plenty of shoes in the “comfort” category and from companies that focus on waterproof footwear, which is what interests me the most. Some all-weather faves from the sale include these penny loafers and these simple Chelsea boots. For travel at lightspeed, I like these slip-on sneakers and these ballet flats.

And the shoes that surprised me? The ones I found myself drawn to despite my love for all things minimal? My heart skipped a beat when this pair of sculptural heeled sandals and these scalloped sneakers popped up.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE NSALE

While I’d pretty much always encourage you to put any extra fun spending money toward travel, this sale can offer the chance to save a little on the item you were planning on buying anyway. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of the sale, I know – but keeping a level head is the best shopping strategy of them all. It’s just stuff – and if you’ve lived without it this long, chances are you’ll be fine again tomorrow.
