Even though it’s almost physically painful to post a gift guide before folks in the U.S. have sat down to Thanksgiving dinner, this new world is wild and weird so here we are: it’s time for wayward’s gift guides for 2021. In “normal” times I always advocate for taking trips in lieu of gift-giving, but that is mostly off the table for the time being. So for now I’m focusing on gifts that provide more value than their cost implies; these are items intended to bring the recipient time, comfort, and delight (and maybe can help get them on their way when it comes time to travel again).
While each of this year’s gift guides may be categorized, the truth is the gifts below will appeal to a broad audience and range of identities – there may even be something for your most difficult-to-shop-for relative. As much as I hate to say it, it’s probably best to place orders sooner rather than later due to the you-know-what issues, so without further ado, here are my top picks for him:

GIFTS FOR HIM
1. A Durable Carryall Tote. This bag does it all – it’s roomy enough to hold all of their stuff for an overnight stay, and that ever-important laptop. The handles and crossbody strap make it easy to carry, and with a pair of interior pockets, they won’t lose anything to its depths.

Status Candles.* This set is a perennial favorite in my household (Feu de Bois is a favorite at this time of year), and I think that more people are turning to candles as a way to create a retreat in their homes. 7. A Base Layer. I may be projecting solely based on my experience with my partner, but it has been incredibly difficult to get him to purchase the right base layers and undergarments and it’s something I often end up buying for him. I get that they’re not as exciting as cool sneakers or fun jackets, but they’re meant to keep you comfortable and warm! If your recipient is the same way, why not give ’em a hand?
8. A Solid-Choice Membership. This gift keeps on giving.
