2021 Holiday Gift Guide: Gifts for Her

A flatlay of holiday gift wrap materials: gift wrap, scissors, bows, tape, and a to/from tag

Even though it’s almost physically painful to post a gift guide before folks in the U.S. have sat down to Thanksgiving dinner, this new world is wild and weird so here we are: it’s time for wayward’s gift guides for 2021. In “normal” times I always advocate for taking trips in lieu of gift-giving, but that is mostly off the table for the time being. So for now I’m focusing on gifts that provide more value than their cost implies; these are items intended to bring the recipient time, comfort, and delight (and maybe can help get them on their way when it comes time to travel again).

While each of this year’s gift guides may be categorized, the truth is the gifts below will appeal to a broad audience and range of identities – there may even be something for your most difficult-to-shop-for relative. As much as I hate to say it, it’s probably best to place orders sooner rather than later due to the you-know-what issues, so without further ado, here are my top picks for her:

GIFTS FOR HER

1. Turtleneck Cashmere Collar. This 100% cashmere collar comes in just one size, eliminating the need for guessing the recipient’s size (phew, right?). The gorgeous camel color will layer perfectly under or over other winter outfits, adding warmth without bulk.

2. Everything for a Five Minute Face. A pared-down makeup set is a perfect example of gifting the recipient time. This kit from minimalist clean beauty company MERIT comes with just enough product to make up a face without overdoing it, and I love that they allow you to select the colors for each product rather than pre-assembling.

3. A Luxe Gold Chain. Chain necklaces are here to stay, so why not go for one in solid gold? This one is dead-center on the spectrum of chunky and dainty and will go with just about everything.

4. Leather Airpod Case. Cuyana appears in many of my gift guides because it’s a brand I really put to the test during my travels. I’m a recent AirPods convert, and after nearly losing them more than once, I can see that a case with a strap would be immensely helpful. Plus with this one, there’s no need to worry about remembering which model of AirPods they have – it fits both the standard and pro models.

5. An Abstract Wool Sweater. This sweater specially designed for petites (*gives a not-so-high five*) is very of the moment with its modern and minimal design. It’s made from mercerized merino wool yarn, which means the sweater should feel soft and smooth on the skin.

6. Great Coffee On the Go. I recently traveled without my Chemex for fear of breaking and regretted not having caffeine available whenever I needed it. This coffee-making set would have solved all of my problems: it comes with an electric kettle, travel mug, coffee scoop, coffee grounds container, a dripper, and a reusable filter, and it all fits together in one mighty mini-unit. Genius. [edit: Michael surprised me with one for Christmas and it is the best]

7. Shoemaking Class, Rilee Shoes. While I’m saddened that the owner no longer makes shoes for sale, it makes me immensely happy to see she’s offering a course to learn her craft! This class doesn’t include materials, but I think it would be so fun to spend a day with the recipient selecting the perfect leather and lasts for their soon-to-be-made shoes.

8. Workout Gear They’ll Display as Art. What a joy it would be to work out with this resistance band! Not only that, it would look spectacular hung on a hook on the wall.

9. Modern Leather Valet Tray.* For the friend who can’t find their keys (we all have one!). This valet tray is almost begging to be filled with keys, change, and anything else they seem to always be losing. Having a home for things is a great way to avoid losing them, but giving items a beautiful home? *chef’s kiss*
