Everlane Day Crossover Sandals on top of a white rug

Happy Saturday!

It’s pretty yucky outside today, but even if it weren’t dreary and rainy it would be too hot to go out anyway. I’m choosing to take this as an excuse to try a new sewing project and to snuggle up with a book (I also would not be against sneaking in a nap if the opportunity presents itself).

On the travel-front, we’re just getting ready for/excited about Cartagena in a couple of weeks. Even though it’s almost as far north as you can get while still counting as South America, I’m looking forward to stepping foot on a new-to-us continent.

Other than weighing the pros and cons of certain beach clubs around Cartagena and narrowing down restaurants for our anniversary dinner, here’s what I’ve been reading this week:

Travel

For all the tall people out there.

Ouch. And why?

“Please prepare the cabin door.”

Looking to travel to the California coast? You can rent Reese Witherspoon’s character’s house in Big Little Lies (you know, if you’re willing to spend $3-5k per night). No longer available.

A look into the concept of flygskam.

Previously… Two years ago I shared our experience hiking the Cinque Terre; last year I was trying on clothes without paying first and discussing things we’ve given up in order to travel.

Life & Home

The change we need right meow.

Loving the unique designs in this Etsy shop.

Looking for a home in Texas?

Ikea is about to launch a collaboration with Sonos. We love our Sonos One for listening to music while we cook – it just may be time to add another!

Food

Still better than my last in-flight meal.

I’m never buying alt-milks again. This week I made a batch of oatalmond milk in my Vitamix and I’m not looking back. I haven’t done the math, but I believe we’ll realize some cost savings and it’s better for the environment and our bodies.

California, leading the way.

I love a good pavlova! (Wondering what to do with those egg yolks? Put them in ice cream!).

Style

Cute swimwear brand Summersalt just released their activewear line (and of course it’s cute too!).

The makers of my favorite rain boots are holding a Warehouse Sale! I love my ankle height boots – they keep my feet warm and dry yet are light and compact.

Things I bought this week

Top Row (all thrifted) || Rust Linen Shorts (similar) | Silk V Neck, Grana (take 10% off your first order) | Linen Shirtdress, Eileen Fisher (similar) | Linen Pants (similar) | Paper-Bag Pants, H&M |
Bottom Row (all thrifted) || Sleeveless Button-Down (similar) | Olive Shorts (similar) | Cami Dress (similar) | Navy Shorts (similar) | Tie-Hem Tee (similar) |

Last weekend we visited not one but two Goodwills in search of warm hot-weather pieces to help get through the next few blistering months, and I came away with more than I expected. Easily my favorite of my Goodwill finds are a pair of Florence-dupes (i.e., wide-leg linen pants) and a summery linen-blend dress (similar). Two I’m on the fence about but purchased anyway are these olive shorts and this olive top (both linked to similar items). It’s a good reminder of how easy it is to fall into the trap of thrifting more than you need because of how cheap and readily available everything is. I don’t go out shopping in my hometown often, and I likely can recoup what I spent by listing them on Poshmark if I decide not to keep them. Speaking of Poshmark, I purchased two items this week: this Grana tank and a pair of dressier shorts (linked to similar; the ones I purchased are the same style as those in the photo, but more of a copper color). And Everlane kindly gifted me a pair of their Day Crossover Sandals (top of page) to test out. I wore them yesterday in attempt to break them in before our trip, but surprisingly it seems there’s no break-in period needed. I’m sure I’ll have more thoughts on them after a few weeks of wear.

Do you find yourself purchasing more than you set out to when you go thrift shopping?
