Just in the nick of time, I’m sharing my Everlane picks for September.
The weather is finally starting to shift here in Charlotte, and it’s time to start dressing one of two ways: in long pants and a sleeveless top, or the Princess Diana Outfit.
My style leans more toward the former, so I’ve been trying to amp up my pants game after a summer of bringing more shorts and dresses into my wardrobe. This month I also added a pair of Chelsea boots (a forever favorite style) in a new-to-me color, as well as a travel pouch. Well – that last item I ordered way back in July, but it finally arrived after being on backorder for months.

When I’m shopping online, I like to see an item on several different body types to aid in choosing the right size; to help others in the same boat, I like to share a mini-review when adding new things to my wardrobe. For reference, I’m 5’4″, and my measurements are 35″-28″-40.5″; I typically wear a shoe size US 7.5 Medium.

So, here’s an up-close look at The ReWool Way-High Drape Pant, The Organic Wide-Leg Pant, The Way-High Sailor Jean, The Italian Leather Chelsea Boot, and The ReNew Catch-All Case – see if you can guess what I kept and what I returned:
The ReWool Way-High Drape Pant

This pant may be dubbed The ReWool Way-High Drape Pant (whew that’s a mouthful), but I prefer to call them Power Pants. These fit very similarly to The Linen Way-High Drape Pant (reviewed here) but are made of a non-stretch wool blend (74% Recycled Wool, 23% Recycled Nylon, and 3% Other Fibers, to be exact). Currently, they only come in this Blue / Brown Houndstooth colorway, but perhaps they’ll add other options as the season progresses. I’m pretty smitten with the colors in this houndstooth pattern; to my eye, the deepest brown is so dark it is almost black – perfect for mixing in with my wardrobe that leans heavily on black and white. Our weather is just starting to turn cooler here in the Southeastern U.S., which means I haven’t had much time to play with the styling of these dramatic pants. But even when the temperature plummets and sandals turn to boots and tank tops suddenly gain sleeves (metaphorically, of course), I’ll likely always let the pants steal the show. But if you’re here for the drama, there’s a blazer to match.
Part of what makes these pants so great is their vastness in width and length. The 31″ inseam is of the moment, although it overwhelms my frame a bit and is a little impractical for my lifestyle. I plan on hemming them to the floor, which will still maintain their oversized, drapey look while putting my mind at ease about tripping over the hems. But first I have to get them back from the dry cleaners. Yep, these babies are dry clean-only – and my gut tells me not to ignore the care tag on these to help maintain their shape (unlike nearly all of the other dry clean only items in my house that I choose to hand wash). Wool is naturally odor-resistant, which will help extend the time between washings – as will carefully using a hand-held steamer to refresh between wears.
But how do they feel? Wool is a somewhat polarizing fabric amongst those with allergies, and admittedly this is not the softest wool. It reminds me of the texture of thrift shop blazers – substantial, but with a little roughness to it. Of course, none of this would matter so much if the pants were lined, but alas, they are unlined (save for the pockets, which tag-team with undies to cover some of the more sensitive parts of the body). If I know I will be wearing The ReWool Way-High Drape Pant for any length of time, I’ll probably add a pair of tights or perhaps pick up a pair of silk leggings to wear underneath. For short stints, I find the fabric comfortable enough on its own.
The Organic Wide-Leg Pant

In person, these pants give off a wide-legged chino vibe, though they are made from ultra-durable organic cotton with a touch of stretch. As usual, I sized down from a 6 to a 4 in these pants, and while they are tight right out of the bag, they do relax some with wear. I’ve worn them several times since they arrived at my door – for the longest stretch on the airplane to Dallas – and as a result, have firmly placed these in the small “standing pants” section of my closet. It’s not that I can’t sit in them, but they hold me in so well that it gets a bit uncomfortable after a while. The combination of being short-waisted and curvy makes this a bit more likely to happen; if you’re shaped the same way, I recommend sitting for some time before popping the tag.
Still, I’m determined to make the most of them whenever I plan to be standing for any length of time – museum-hopping, shopping, attending festivals, and more. They look so great with ultra-cropped tops and play well with boots, sneakers, and sandals. And when necessary, could stand in for a pair of chino pants, too.
The Way-High Sailor Jean

I think I give myself away in these photos – you can just tell from the look on my face that I’m not very comfortable in them, and I’ve since returned these jeans. It’s been a while since I’ve tried any of Everlane’s non-curvy denim, but since the Way-High Sailor Jean only comes in a standard range of sizes I figured this was a good opportunity to test the waters again (see what I did there? Wait, no, come back!). And I’ve had such great luck with Everlane’s Way-High Pants (see above) that I figured I might have the same experience with the Way-High Jeans – but the truth is they are cut very differently. The Way-High Sailor Jean is a wide-leg jean in low-stretch denim, with much less room in the hips than the Way-High Pants (in part due to the pleats that are present in the pants). Sizing up is only an option if I’m willing to take in the waist, but right now I’m not bothered to do that. That said, if you have a larger hip-to-waist ratio as I do, it could be an option.
Fit aside, I really love the fabric and the wash of these jeans. They’re made of a blend of 98% organic cotton and 2% elastane and feel hefty without feeling too rigid. From the thighs downward (on me, at least), they have a nice weight and hang away from the body a bit. If you have a straighter figure, this could very well be the perfect pair of sailor jeans for you. In the meantime, I’ll be over here crossing my fingers for a Curvy version of these jeans.
The Italian Leather Chelsea Boot

How cute are these boots? (Please tell me I’m not the only one who read that in time with this kids’ clothing commercial from 2009). I am firmly in the stage of my life where I’m choosing higher quality shoes because 1) I know that they have a longer life expectancy, 2) they’ll always fit, and 3) like a cool coat or power outfit, they can act as a form of armor against the world when you’re not feeling your best. In this chic off-white color, these leather Chelsea boots are a multi-faceted statement. They can ground a monochrome white outfit, they can be tough with a leather moto jacket, or they can give a little retro vibe when paired with a mini-dress. The leather is sturdy yet supple, and the gore adds a little flexibility for the break-in process (I took my usual 7.5 here, and I’d say you should do the same unless you plan on wearing really thick socks always). The gum sole might be my favorite part – it’s a little unexpected and I like surprises!
Yes, but – I know the light color means they’re going to feel “precious” for some time. I’m working on incorporating more “special” things into my everyday life, so this is a fun opportunity to do just that (though I’ll likely reach for another pair if it’s rainy or muddy out). I admit that I fear getting them dirty, but once the first spot happens it’s almost a relief and I can finally relax and embrace it, you know? Still, I made a quick trip out to the backyard to waterproof them, just in case.

Although I typically pack my toiletries in this leather travel case set (reviewed here), when I’m traveling extra-light (say, on a budget airline with just a personal item) it’s not necessarily the most efficient use of my limited space. I was drawn to both the look of The ReNew Catch-All Case and its many pockets to tag in occasionally on my travels. Inside the generously sized recycled polyester case are five slip pockets, and there is an extra zippered pocket on the outside. The bag also includes two small handles on the side for easy retrieval, and a snapping system for folding down the sides for ease of use (see that feature in action here).
I’ve traveled with it once so far, squeezing in an edited selection of products for a quick overnight trip. I’m impressed that the height of the bag accommodates my tallish hairbrush and deodorant, and really appreciated the extra organization for separating my toothbrush from my razor. I think it’s the perfect size for a one-and-done makeup and toiletry bag for quick trips, but appreciate that I can squish it down when carrying fewer things. I think I’ll get a lot of mileage out of this little bag.
