2019 Spring Travel Style Wishlist

Woven bag, pinwheel, and bottle of rose wine laid flat

I’m probably the only one in the northern hemisphere who’ll say this, but winter absolutely flew by.

Partly because I’ve been so busy it was easy to ignore the weather outside, but mostly because the climate here is so mild (or rather, hot). I’ve seen the mercury reach up and graze the ninety-degree mark already this year, so there’s never any point in packing away my linen and sandals.

Usually, I’m clinging to my sweaters and boots and all-black everything because I can only wear them for such a short season, but I’m surprised at myself for being so excited about bright, light, warm-weather clothes. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even do the full travel-blogger thing and get a sundress this year.

Each season I begin doing a little unstructured wardrobe planning, sharing styles that feel fresh for the coming months, yet utterly practical. I try to focus on purchasing garments that fit my home life and can also stand up to the sometimes chaotic circumstances of travel.

By the end of the season, my goal is not to purchase everything here (this is a space of honesty – and to tell the truth, my wallet and closet likely could not sustain that!), but rather to cultivate and share a selection of items that are of lasting quality and transition seamlessly between parts of the world.

Here’s what is on my radar this spring:

CLOTHING

1. Pleat-Back Anorak | 2. Boiled Wool Tunic Sweater | 3. Wrap Back Linen Jumpsuit | 4. Wrap Linen Jumpsuit | 5. Tank Dress* | 6. Relaxed Muscle Tank*

“Comfort and ease” just about sums up my wish list for clothing. Not one, but two styles of linen jumpsuits are on my mind, as well as a midi-dress. If done properly, one-piece dressing can be a great way to save suitcase space.

This stunning red dress* is begging to be worn alone, of course (that perfect cherry color…), but would also be lovely with a tee underneath or a sweater on top. In fact, so would this gorgeous jumpsuit.

As a top layer, I think this boiled wool tunic sweater is absolutely stunning. I envision it both at brunch on a chilly yet sunny Sunday or by a bonfire at a campout.

I also like the casual pieces I’m seeing on the market now, like the pleat-back anorak in olive, which you could easily throw in the backseat on a long road-trip, and have at the ready for any impending rainstorms. The brand is well known for its attention to detail, like the pockets on the soon-to-be-released muscle tank*. It seems a tad long to wear untucked but looks great with a slouchy tuck, and I bet it would look fantastic knotted in the front or back!

But for those times that call for dressing up (the wedding invitations are arriving by the day at this point), I like this wrap-back linen jumpsuit from an Etsy seller. I think it would be perfect for the day and night weddings that have appeared on the Spring months of our calendar.

SHOES

1. White Loafers* | 2.Navy Slides* | 3. Square Toe Heel* | 4. Glove Flat | 5. Flatform Sandal* | 6. Leather Pump*

I expect a lot from my shoes, especially when I’m traveling. They have to protect my feet from rocky surfaces and sharp edges, blend seamlessly with the rest of my wardrobe, and, most importantly, leave my feet blister-free.

Everlane’s Modern Loafers are one of my favorite shoes to wear while traveling, so you can imagine my excitement at the release of the Day Loafer. I was immediately drawn to the white shoes, which is surprising as I typically shy away from lots of white clothes and shoes (I am a dirt magnet). The smooth leather looks pretty easy to clean, and white would easily pair with everything.

For day-to-night wear, I like these slides* which look like they’d pack pretty easily. At first glance, I thought these square-toe shoes* weren’t for me, but the geometric play of the square toe and round heel caused them to grow on me. I’m still not sure if a squared toe is the best shoe shape for my petite frame, but these may be worth a shot.

The glove flat is an absolute classic and the warm, reddish brown feels fresh after a dark winter palette. For those warmer, summer-like days, I think the flatform sandals* might be the one, and, come dressier occasions, these leather pumps* would do the trick (but more importantly, how great would they look with raw-hemmed denim?).

ACCESSORIES

1. Braided Belt [save 20% with code WAYWARDBLOG20] | 2. Crossbody Bag* | 3. Geometric Earrings |
4. Silk Scarf | 5. Leather Watch* | 6. Wine & Cheese Picnic Basket

How sweet is this braided belt? This style of belt is the ultimate workhorse, as it can be worn high around the waist or low around the hips thanks to plenty of places to insert the buckle [save 20% with code WAYWARDBLOG20]. Though this crossbody bag* doesn’t quite check off all the boxes for my slightly paranoid self, I really do love the simple styling. Plus, if I’m looking to warm up my wardrobe with warm neutrals, I’ll need a bag to match.

Along that same vein, I think this watch will blend in seamlessly. It’s nice, yet not necessarily expensive enough for a thief to try to swipe. I’ve shied away from dangly earrings in recent years, but a pair I bought last year has rekindled my love for them. These bold geometric earrings* would allow for lighter jewelry elsewhere without completely overwhelming an outfit. This scarf brand offers just a few beautiful scarves, but I appreciate the timeless elegance of No. 1.

And finally, as an aspirational purchase, I’ve got my eye on this wine & cheese picnic basket, because I certainly hope there are more picnics in my future (and wine)!

FINAL THOUGHTS ON MY SPRING WISH LIST

How wonderful is this color palette when you consider it as a whole? Warm and soft breezy colors and fabrics punctuated with bright pops of color. It’s kind of like the season’s blooms a bit, right?
